PLAYWRITING OPPORTUNITY: 12th ANNUAL GAFFNEY PLAYWRITING COMPETITION IS NOW OPEN

The Department of Theatre and Dance at University of California San Diego is looking for previously unproduced, unpublished scripts highlighting the African-American experience in contemporary or historical terms. The winning script will be highlighted during our annual ‘Wagner New Play Festival.’

The winning playwright will receive:

· A $1000 honorarium

· A staged reading in spring of 2019 of the winning script to be presented on the campus of UC San Diego.

· Travel and housing costs covered for the winning playwright to be present for the reading of their play.

Guidelines:

Scripts must be original, unpublished, unproduced and free of royalty and copyright restrictions. Plays which have had staged readings will be accepted.

Scripts must be 50 pages or longer, typed. Manuscripts must be submitted electronically.

Scripts will be accepted beginning January 1st, 2019.

Scripts should be emailed from a university email address.

Deadline for entry Friday, April 12th, 2019.

The winner will be announced by April 26th, 2019.

Please include with your submission your contact details (name, college email, address, and phone number), play title, number of characters, institutional affiliation, and a one-page story summary.
