Winter Dance Auditions- Video Submissions

By August 19, 2020Auditions, Dance

Auditions for the Winter Dance Concert will be via video submission. Dance faculty will be selecting students for a dance on camera / video dance production to be presented virtually.

Instructions and a video of choreography to learn will be shared with on the Dance Program auditions page at Dance Program Auditions Page and shared via idanceksu@listserv.ksu.edu, and this site as they become available.

Winter Dance Concert 2020 will include Jazz, Modern, and Tap choreography developed by K-State Dance faculty, and members of New York City’s Sokolow Theatre/Dance will stage excerpts from Rooms, Anna Sokolow’s 1955 masterpiece, which examined the psychic isolation and unfulfilled desires of characters isolated in their small, city apartments. This controversial and groundbreaking work breathed with the loneliness and alienation following the breakdown of wartime solidarity, when the threat of atomic annihilation, the 1952 polio epidemic, and the Red Scare hung like invisible contagions and created a mood of pervasive uncertainty and dread over America. In 2020, Rooms has become both real and surreal. Anna Sokolow’s 1955 choreography resonates with uncanny power in a world where people everywhere are living quarantined in their homes. Surely, cut off from each other in the grip of a global pandemic, we are all living Rooms.

Dance faculty are also looking for students to participate in the African Music and Dance Ensemble and the Contemporary Dance Ensemble, which will not perform with the virtual presentation of WinterDance 2020.  Click HERE to learn more about these other opportunities.
