The Kennedy Center Playwriting Intensive

THE KENNEDY CENTER PLAYWRITING INTENSIVE

Thursday, May 31-Sunday, June 3

Director of the Dramatists Guild Institute

A four-day playwriting intensive at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Participants are university students, faculty and emerging professionals from across the country.

Additional guest artists are still being determined, but last summer’s teaching roster included Mark Bly, Renee Calarco and Allyson Currin from the Welders, Kenneth Lin, Nan Barnett and Caleen Sinnette Jennings.

The program consists of rigorous writing workshops and discussions of the art, craft and business of playwriting with the program’s director, Gary Garrison, and a wide range of distinguished guest artists.

Classes will meet:
Thursday 1st: 7-10:30pm
Friday 2nd: and Saturday 3rd 9:30am-6pm
Sunday 4th: 9:30-3pm

Tuition:
Dramatists Guild Members and Playwriting Intensive Alumni-$250
Current student- $300
Non-Student/Non-DG Member- $400

Housing:
Travel, housing and meals are the responsibility of the participant. Space in the George Washington University Residence Halls, in the Kennedy Center neighborhood, has been reserved for the participants at a range of $40-$70 (shared/single) per night. For those whose budgets will allow, there are a number of hotels in the Kennedy Center vicinity (“Foggy Bottom”).

-In the body of an email: a brief statement of motivation for attending the Playwriting Intensive
-Ten pages of a dramatic work, or a ten-minute play
-A writer’s resume
