The Broadway Stage Management Symposium

The Broadway Stage Management Symposium is back for a sixth year!

At the Symposium, Broadway’s stage managers share their expertise and experience, creating a unique conference where all stage managers can learn, grow, connect, and be inspired. It’s an incredible resource for students who are considering a career in stage management.

The Broadway Stage Management Symposium is a two day forum featuring a series of panels, lectures and seminars by some of Broadway’s most experienced stage managers.  These professionals will discuss stage management skills and challenges, share their expertise and experiences, dive into the art and craft of stage management and impart advice on how to create and maintain a career on Broadway.

Topics may include (but are not limited to): calling large musicals, working with Broadway’s unions, relationships with directors, organizational strategies, automation, management skills, technology for stage managers, databases, safety protocols, career advice, managing creative artists, leadership and more…

A few quick facts about the Symposium:

1.       Hundreds of attendees have participated in the Symposium, the only annual stage management conference created exclusively by and for stage managers.

2.       Attendees have come from thirty-eight (38) different states and fourteen (14) different countries including: Argentina, Australia, Bolivia, Canada, Hong Kong, Nigeria, New Zealand, and Singapore.

3.       Symposium alumni have gone on to join Actors Equity Association, work as production assistants on Broadway, stage manage National Tours, work Off-Broadway and one has even become a Broadway Stage Manager!

4.       Each year is unique, investigating important aspects of the work and life of stage managers. Past panels have included: Emotional Intelligence, The Tao of Stage Managing, Flying Safety, Calling Large Musicals, Physical Health, Fiscal Health, Diversity, Team Dynamics, Harassment, Servant Leadership, Maintaining Morale, Stage Manager Moms, New Technology for Stage Managers, and many more.

The Symposium is set for May 30th & 31st at the beautiful New 42nd Street Studios, where Broadway shows have enjoyed rehearsing since 2000.
