REMINDER OF SECOND STAGE PROPOSALS 21/22

Just a Reminder that the due date for Second Stage Proposals is Friday, February 19th 2021. 

Also, please contact David Mackay with your proposal before submitting.  

 

K-State Theatre is seeking proposals from students wishing to direct on the Second Stage (in the Purple Masque) in the 2021-2022 season. Proposals are due Friday, February 19, 2021 by 5pm. All ideas will be considered, but we specifically encourage scripts that have equity, diversity and inclusion. As well, please consider plays written by African-American playwrights for Ebony Theatre. 

 

We prioritize proposals as follows: 

 

1. Graduate thesis projects. 

2. Projects from undergraduates who have successfully completed coursework in THTRE 565-Principles of Directing. 

3. If applicable, projects from undergraduates who have successfully taken THTRE 765-Practice in Directing (Lunchbag Theatre) (Not a deal breaker as this course was not offered Spring 2021). 

4. Priority will be given to Fall 21 and Spring 22 seniors and final-year Graduate thesis projects. 

5. Other proposals (including stage readings) supported by a faculty recommender interested students should submit a directing proposal to dbmackay@ksu.edu Submit two plays for consideration. If you are requesting a special project to be scheduled (such as a new play), one submission is acceptable. 

The Second Stage Proposal form is due February 19, 2021, and may be found HERE. 

 

Give yourself plenty of time, the proposal requirements include: 

 

• Narrative on how directing fits into your overall goals 

• Reason for wanting to direct each of your TWO choices 

• A beginning vision/concept/matrix: this is your unique take on the play and COPIES OF EACH PLAY (electronic is preferred) 

• Character breakdown 

• Design requirements including sets, costumes, lights, projections, sound, props, any special requirements (piano, musicians, onstage fights, accents, blood, children, live animals, puppets…) 

• PLEASE reach out to design faculty for suggestions for students to serve as your design team, if applicable(IMPORTANT) 

• PLEASE reach out to David via email or request a Zoom to discuss your project(s) prior to submitting your application.
