PIRATES OF PENZANCE Audition Information
This is the Joseph Papp Broadway version that originally starred Kevin Kline, Rex Smith and Linda Ronstadt. Use this recording and movie for any research and preparation.
Auditions will be held in Nichols Hall, Chapman Theatre on Monday November 12 from 3:00-5:30pm (callbacks from 5:30-6:30, if needed). Prepare 32 bars of song either from the show or in the style of the show (light operetta, classic Broadway). Accompanist is provided.
CALLBACKS
Some MIGHT be asked to return for a callback from 5:30-6:30 and should be prepared to read from the script, sing from the show and/or learn a movement combination.

Sundays 6-10pm
Mon-Thurs 7-10pm
Sunday January 20, 2019 to February 27, 2019 with performances at McCain February 28-March 3 (MUST be available all-day Saturday February 23 & Sunday February 24 for tech and Feb 25-27 from 6-11pm for dress rehearsals). While everyone will not be called every rehearsal, you should be available.
Character Breakdown
Frederic
A member of the Pirates. He is unaffected and possesses an unself-conscious sex appeal. Youthful, genuine and innocent.

Daughter of the Major-General. An astute young woman, she is sympathetic in nature. She and Frederic fall in love.

The leader of the pirates. Despite his sharp and loud bark, he is actually a whole-hearted romantic with a soft bite. Typically found with an open shirt and wind in his hair.

Major-general
A father with many daughters. Possesses kindness, warmth, and good-humor. The love for his daughters is undeniable.

Frederic’s lifelong nanny. She wants nothing more in life than to see Frederic happy, healthy, and by her side.

The Pirate King’s right-hand man. Samuel is clever but easily manipulated and influenced.

The leader of the police. He is Groucho Marx-esque and uncomfortably clumsy. Though their duty to protect is clear, the Sergeant and his police are more accustomed to fear and hide.
