National First-generation Student Celebration

By November 7, 2018News

Dear students:

As you may know, Thursday, November 8th is National First-generation Student Celebration. The Office of First-generation Students (FGSO) with several partners, including the First-generation Student Association, have some fun events planned for that day at the Union Courtyard between 11:00 am and 2:00 pm. Please see attached flyer.

You will be able to hear first-gen stories from students as well as faculty and staff who were first in their families to graduate from college. The student panel is from 11:30 am to 12:00 pm; the first-gen faculty and staff panel is from 12:30 to 1:00 pm. We hope to have students, faculty and staff in attendance to hear their inspiring stories, and we need your help in spreading the word.

Arrow Coffee, JPs and both Cornerstone coffee shops  are joining the celebration through their signature item for the day:

  • Both Cornerstone coffee shops will feature a signature drink called “Proud to Be First” for the week of Nov 5-9 and it will be discounted on Nov 8th
  • Union Station by JPs will have a special called “Proud to Be First” featured during the week of Nov 5-9.
  • JPs Sports Grill will feature a daily special on Nov 8th called “Proud to Be First”.
  • Arrow Coffee will feature Maiden Voyage Mocha on Thursday, November 8th.

The FGSO  has created a prop that will travel across campus to create awareness of first-gen students and the events of the November 8th. Keep an eye on it and feel free to tweet about it if you see it!

Hope to see you on Thursday at the Union between 11:00 and 2:00 pm. Join us showing your first-gen pride!

Thank you all!

Best,

Rebeca Paz
