Dorothy Glick Maglione, Assistant Professor of Musicology, collaborates with professional choir Cardinalis in a performance that brings her work on the intersection of music and immigration to life. Amidst an era in New York defined by various waves of migration, the concerts at Ellis Island Immigration Station for people detained there in the early twentieth century reveals the story of American identity through Maglione’s work. The narrative of these concerts shed light on what it was to be American during that period, how and when people identified as American, and by extension, offer a glimpse into one small slice of the United States story.
The ticketed concert is open to the public and includes new poetry, musicological research, and audio clips of immigrants themselves woven among choral works. Please consider joining us at 7:30 pm on October 25 at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 1307 Holmes St, Kansas City, MO 64106. Tickets: https://www.choralguildkc.com/event-details-1/harbor-of-dreams.
