THE KO FESTIVAL OF PERFORMANCE IS SEEKING SUMMER INTERNS AND OFFERING A SERIES OF 6-DAY INTENSIVE WORKSHOPS.

www.kofest.com

Each year the performances at Ko are curated on a theme that we think will entertain, provoke and inspire our audiences! Our 23rd season has been curated on the theme of WORK | JOB | CAREER | CALLING. The shows are by a diverse group of artists:  Beau Jest Moving Theatre, Judith Sloan & Earsay, The Independent Eye, and Alice Eve Cohen. We will also offer a couple of special events by Carpetbag Brigade (an extraordinary stilt company), the Mettawee River Theatre Company with an all-ages event with masks, giant puppets and live music, and a Story Slam on our season theme in which interns, Ko artists and community members participate, plus an interactive visual art installation. All our shows are adventurous, devised works created by the people who perform them & their teams of collaborators. In addition, we offer rehearsal residencies and intensive 6-day workshops by master teachers Gerard Stropnicky, Baba Israel, and Elizabeth Fuller and Conrad Bishop of The Independent Eye.

The 5-week festival will take place in on the Amherst College campus in Amherst, MA. Interns have ranged from 18-55 and have been students, educators and professionals looking to expand their horizons.

Perhaps you know someone who might be interested. Please help me get the word out to them!

Who Might Be Interested:

Naturally those with a theater background, but also to those compelled by the season theme.  Most often undergraduate and graduate students, but we have also had faculty members and practicing professionals who want to reenergize and widen their horizons join us.

General Description of the Internship:

Interns work closely with the staff and the visiting artists to execute the full range of summer activities, including mounting and running of shows, assisting with rehearsal residencies where new work is being created, hosting the visiting artists and workshop students, and the creation of visual displays about the work – including an interactive art installation by Kali Quinn. Interns are full members of the artistic community at the festival, and as such are encouraged to participate in the discussions that follow all the performances at the festival. Experience, particularly in the technical and front-of-house aspects of theater production, is welcome but all interns will receive additional training for their work, which will be in a multiplicity of production areas.

Useful Information:

All activities will be held on the Amherst College campus in Amherst, MA for the month of July and depart on August 6. Internship dates may be somewhat flexible.  Interns are housed on campus with the artists in a wonderful mansion with a large and fully-equipped kitchen. Interns are eligible to use the state-of-the-art campus gym and pool. There is a bike path right near the housing and the center of Amherst is just a short walk away.
