Nathan Louis Jackson Legacy NYC Trip

October 7–11, 2026

Four K-State Theatre students will have the opportunity to spend five days experiencing theatre across New York City!

Generously sponsored by Broadway director and producer Thomas Kail, the Tony Award-winning director of Hamilton and In the Heights, this trip honors the legacy of the late K-State alumnus and playwright Nathan Louis Jackson. Thomas directed the New York premieres of Nathan’s plays Broke-ology and When I Come to Die.

This is not simply a trip to see big Broadway productions. Students will experience theatre in several forms at some of New York’s most renowned theatre institutions—spaces known for nurturing productions that move to Broadway and bringing innovative international theatre to New York audiences.

Our proposed itinerary includes:

  • School Girls; Or, The African Mean Girls Play at Manhattan Theatre Club
  • Good Time Charlie at The Public Theater
  • Hewa Rwanda—Letter to the Absent at Brooklyn Academy of Music
  • Kramer/Fauci at St. Ann’s Warehouse
  • The new musical The Heart at Roundabout Theatre Company
  • A guided visit to the Tenement Museum
  • Time to explore New York’s theatre districts, cultural institutions, and neighborhoods

Airfare, shared hotel accommodations, tickets for scheduled events, and some local transportation will be covered. Students should be prepared to pay for meals, incidentals, optional activities, and other personal expenses.

The trip is open to junior and senior K-State Theatre students through a brief application process. Preference may be given to students who have not previously had the opportunity to visit New York City.

Students interested in applying are encouraged to attend the Community, Wellness, the Arts, and You Meeting on Tuesday, August 25, at 3:30 p.m. in the Chapman Theatre. A brief Nathan Louis Jackson Legacy NYC Trip Information Session will follow, featuring additional details about the itinerary, covered expenses, and application process.

Attending both portions is recommended, and the application will be shared following the meeting.

Applications are due Sunday, August 30, by 5:00 p.m.

This is a chance to experience New York as a working theatre city—not simply as Broadway—and to discover new possibilities for your own artistic journey.
