EXTENSION: Directing Proposals: Purple Masque 2019-2020

By December 3, 2018News, Purple Masque, Theatre

NOTE: Faculty have extended the deadline for Directing Proposals to Monday, January 7, 2019 by 5pm.

K-State Theatre is seeking proposals from students wishing to direct on the Second Stage (in the Purple Masque) in the 2019-2020 season. Proposals are due Monday, January 7, 2019 by 5pm. All ideas will be considered, but we specifically encourage scripts that have several roles for women and plays written by African American playwrights for Ebony Theatre to consider.

We prioritize proposals as follows:

  1. Graduate thesis projects
  2. Projects from undergraduates who have successfully completed coursework in THTRE 565-Principles of Directing and THTRE 765-Practice in Directing (Lunchbag Theatre)
  3. Projects from undergraduates who have successfully completed coursework in THTRE 565-Principles of Directing
  4. Other proposals (including stage readings) supported by a faculty recommender

Interested students should submit a directing proposal to Jennifer Vellenga (vellenga@ksu.edu). Submit two plays for consideration. If you are requesting a special project to be scheduled (such as a new play), one submission is acceptable.

The Second Stage Proposal form is due January 7, 2019, and may be found here: Directing Proposal v5

Give yourself plenty of time, the proposal requirements include:

  • Narrative on how directing fits into your overall goals
  • Reason for wanting to direct each of your TWO choices
  • A beginning vision/concept/matrix: this is your unique take on the play and COPIES OF EACH PLAY
  • Character breakdown
  • Design requirements including sets, costumes, lights, projections, sound, props, any special requirements (piano, musicians, onstage fights, accents, blood, children, live animals, puppets…)
  • Suggested student design team, if applicable

Please see any faculty member with your questions.
