On Friday, May 1st, 2020, K-State Choirs is presenting the Grammy® award-winning “Considering Matthew Shepard” in McCain Auditorium.

This staged concert production features powerful imagery, professional orchestra and soloists in a musical and narrated telling of the story of Matthew Shepard; the young, gay student at the University of Wyoming who was kidnapped, severely beaten, tied to a fence and left to die in a lonely field under a blanket of stars. Five days later, when Matt passed away, the world was watching.  The piece looks at the tragedy of Shepard’s death and implications that come from these events.

This  production includes an eclectic array of American musical styles including jazz, gospel, country, indie folk, and musical theatre to tell the story of Matthew’s life and death. feature professional soloists and orchestra along with synchronized imagery on a 40-foot projection screen.

Considering Matthew Shepard demonstrates music’s capacity to encompass, transform and transcend tragedy. Powerfully cathartic, it leads us from horror and grief to a higher understanding of the human condition, enabling us to endure.  Considering Matthew Shepard is by far the most intricate, beautiful, and unyielding artistic response to this notorious anti-gay hate crime.

Additionally, will be having an event on March 24th in Forum Hall showing the PBS documentary ‘Considering Matthew Shepard,’ along with a lecture-demonstration with the performers about the performance.
