In residence at Cleveland Play House, the 2015 recipient of the Regional Theatre Tony Award, and with its faculty all working professionals, the CWRU/CPH MFA Acting Program has often been described as “a teaching hospital for actors”. Actor Kate Mulgrew called CWRU/CPH MFA students “the future of the American Theatre” and after working with our MFA students, renowned actor/director Austin Pendleton enthused that “this program is soaring”. Indeed, Mr. Pendleton is returning this winter to give a series of Master Classes.

This intense and physically rigorous MFA program seeks artists who are passionate, bold, who have a love of language, an empathy for the human experience, a vivid imagination and the desire to develop the necessary physical, vocal and emotional skills for a sustained and vibrant career in the ever-changing arts landscape.

Above all students are taught the power of the Ensemble. Recent grads, Rich Sommer (Mad Men), Elizabeth A Davis (Tony-nominated for Once), Stephen Michael Spencer (Oregon Shakespeare Festival) and Tom Degnan (Limitless) have all called the MFA program “vital” to their success.

As we only take eight students every other year, the program is ideal for those who want the kind of personal attention that is impossible to get at schools with larger numbers.

I might also add that we charge no audition fees, which is unique among graduate acting programs.
