Wrapping Up a Fantastic Semester at K-State Theatre!

By December 2, 2024News

Dear K-State Theatre Students,

Welcome back to the final week of classes! As we approach the end of the semester, let’s take a moment to celebrate all we’ve accomplished together and look ahead to the exciting opportunities awaiting us in the spring.

This semester has been filled with outstanding achievements and meaningful experiences. Our productions of Philoctetes and A Year with Frog and Toad reminded us of the power of storytelling. Philoctetes explored profound themes of PTSD, betrayal, and forgiveness, sparking thought-provoking conversations, while A Year with Frog and Toad delighted audiences with its warmth and charm, culminating in sold-out performances. A special thank you to Tom Conroy for his fantastic work in marketing! Meanwhile, the Nathan Jackson Legacy NYC Trip was unforgettable, immersing students in socially conscious theatre and cultural vibrancy, with standout productions like Oh Mary and Hamilton. Our Drama Therapy students continued their transformative work with weekly visits to Fort Riley’s soldier recovery unit and made an impact at the NADTA conference, exemplifying the therapeutic potential of theatre.

We also celebrated the energy and leadership within our student organizations. KSTO’s KSTO Day in October welcomed high school students into our theatre community and showcased the creativity that defines our program. Ebony Theatre’s Fall Freshman Friday brought new voices into our fold, and followed by their November Open Mic that continues our commitment to making sure all our voices are heard.

Looking ahead, spring promises more exciting opportunities with two fantastic productions: The Grown-Ups, a thought-provoking exploration of memory, community, and survival, directed by KSTO President, McKenna Moten. And Our Town, Thornton Wilder’s timeless celebration of the beauty and fragility of everyday life, directed by Joelle Arp-Dunham. These productions will challenge and inspire us as we continue to grow as artists and as a community.

As you prepare for finals, remember to take care of yourselves.Take breaks when you need them, get rest and eat well. Finish the semester with the same passion and creativity you’ve shown all fall.

Thank you for an incredible semester, and here’s to an even brighter spring!
