The Effect is set in a clinical trial where paid volunteers test new pharmaceutical drugs in hopes of finding a cure for depression. Under the supervision of Dr. James, two patients, Connie and Tristan, are tested in more ways than one. As they continue with this clinical trial their attraction to one another grows until their feelings lead to disruptive actions within the trial. However, they are not the only two caught in the midst of a confusing and tense relationship. Throughout the trial, opposing views within the medical world are presented through Dr. James and Dr. Sealey. As their intentions battle throughout the trial, they begin to lose control ultimately leading to an explosion of artificial chemicals and true emotion. Can love be mimicked within a pill? If so, how can we ever trust ourselves and what we feel? The answers to these questions may never be discovered but it doesn’t stop this trial from searching.

During callbacks on Wednesday from 6:00-10:30pm, please be prepared to read sides from the script, so please read the script beforehand and be familiar with it. CHARACTER BREAKDOWN
Connie: An inquisitive psychology student.
Tristan: A flirty and unrestrained straggler.
Dr. Lorna James: Resident psychiatrist for trial. Intense and strong in her view of the world as that of something honest and realistic.
Dr. Toby Sealey: A confident and driven man who is unjustifiably optimistic and deeply invested in the success of this clinical trial.
