Exemplification and Health Communication
My name is Faith Thanji, a second year communication graduate student who is seeking your input to complete her masters thesis. My thesis topic is on the manipulation of emotion in the framing of health messages with a close analysis on the MMR-Autism link. In the recent past we have seen experts or rather professionals debated by celebrities or rather individuals who influence mass opinions and impact their decisions on health issues. A close look of this project was the famous Jenny McCarthy linking her sons autism to the measles vaccine her son took which later saw a number of people reject vaccines. This project seeks to manipulate the level of emotion to find out whether experts when pitted against emotional characters such as Jenny are the reason as to why they are found to influence less opinions of consumers of mass media. Who is needed: Three Actors. One will play the role of Jenny McCarthy(female), a doctor (a male) and a narrator who will emulate the role of Larry King (male)
What you will be doing: I have created a script that you will use to act and therefore there will be no need to create a new script.There will be 4 videos shot with the same script, the only difference of the videos will be level of emotion displayed by each character
Where will the project happen: The project will be shot with the help of the division of communications and marketing here at K-State.
When: Dates TBA
The project will need to be shot as soon as possible. The duration for acting and shooting the video should not take more than 2 days since the videos are only 4minutes long.
Compensation: This project is still pending on funding from a grant I have applied. However, engagement with this project will push the individuals to challenge their acting techniques and more so will be used as an additional resume booster since I will provide you with the copies of the videos.
