Theatrical Scene Painting Basics Masterclass
When: Saturday, March 26, 2016 from 10:00am – 2:00pm

This is a four-hour intensive that teaches basic scene painting properties and techniques. It will consist of basic theatrical painting vocabulary, color theory, and hands-on basic painting. Anyone is welcome to sign up regardless of skill/knowledge/field of study.
Some of the painting techniques that will be covered include: base/prime coats, texturing, faux stone and brick, plants, wood, and drape. This will help students have a basic understanding of the tools and techniques used by professional scene painters and props artisans in the entertainment industry.
This class is presented by M.K. Hughes. She is the visiting artist in the theater department covering for Kathy Volks – the resident set design/painting professor. Ms. Hughes is a graduate from Southern Illinois University with an MFA in set design. She has worked as a professional scene painter for several companies including the Alabama and Oregon Shakespeare Festivals.
