What is an open call or cattle call?
An open call, a.k.a cattle call, is an open audition-open to anyone who wants to audition. Performers are seen briefly before a panel of directors. This is a common type of mass audition for theatre, film, and television.
Who participates?
Open/cattle call is MANDATORY for theater majors and anyone wanting to be cast. It is optional, though encouraged, for minors.
Eligibility
All undergrad and graduate students enrolled for at least one credit at Kansas State University are allowed to audition. You are not required to be a theatre major or minor.
What is required?
Prepare a one-to-two minute monologue and sixteen bars from the pop/rock genre, if you are a singer. Accompanist provided, bring sheet music. If you are not a Theatre or Music Theatre major and do not have a monologue or song prepared, there will be something available for you to read and you may sing a capella.
