Hey All,
On Tuesday, July 5th we will have our first class meeting for Modern American Drama. It will last until July 29th and meets 10.20-12.20 Monday-Friday in Nichols 009. This is a great way to gain a 3 hour, 500+ level credit course. As a reminder, you NEED 500+ level courses for your Theatre degree
What will we do? Well, this will be a seminar/lecture on Modern American Theatre.
What do you have to do? Read the plays, discuss them in class and complete two take-home exams.
Why? As a Theatre student, knowledge of these plays and playwrights will make you a better artist and practitioner . . . it doesn’t matter if you are in Design, Tech, Directing, Performance, Stage Management or Education . . . these plays will help you develop into an intelligent student of modern and contemporary American theatre.
In Modern American Drama we will read and discuss plays by such writers as Arthur Miller, Eugene O’Neill, William Inge (Kansas playwright!), Tennessee Williams, Sam Shepard, Neil Simon, Amiri Baraka, Nathan Jackson (KSU grad!), Suzan-Lori Parks, Paula Vogel and Tony Kushner.
Topics include: “American Dreams”, Identity and Race in American Drama, Class, Feminism, Gender Performance, Queer Theatre and Performativity.
We will read plays such as BROKE-OLOGY, ANGELS IN AMERICA, WATER BY THE SPOONFUL & THE MINEOLA TWINS.
E-mail me with questions at sbskelton@ksu.edu or just show up to class on Tuesday!
Best, Shannon
