K-State First is looking for learning assistants

K-State First is looking for outstanding students to serve as learning assistants for the fall 2016 semester. Learning assistants assist professors in a weekly CAT Community connections course. (Jennifer Vellenga is teaching in a CAT community fall 2016).

It is an opportunity to work closely with faculty, gain leadership/professional skills and mentor first year students. If selected, learning assistants work about five hours a week and earn a $500 stipend for the semester.

Learning assistants also receive specialized training in teaching and mentoring through a weekly one hour course. Requirements of the position:

· Must be a sophomore, junior, or senior by fall 2106.

· Must have passed relevant introductory coursework with a B or higher.

· Must demonstrate outstanding achievement — academic, professional and/or extracurricular.

· Must be recommended by a faculty or staff member. Jennifer Vellenga is teaching in a CAT community fall 2016 in Fundamentals of Acting/Anthropology. If you are interested, let Jen know. vellenga@ksu.edu
