Happily ever after is an ever shifting destination, merely a fleeting moment as these fairy tale characters find out when they achieve their dreams only to be forced to face the reality and consequences of their desires.
AUDITIONS/CALLBACKS, Thursday, August 24, 6:00-10pm in Chapman Theatre in Nichols Hall
All must sing 16 bars of a song from a classical Broadway musical or 16 bars from the show is acceptable. Accompanist provided, bring sheet music. No singing a capella. There will be a movement component to the final callbacks, dance attire will not be necessary.
CASTING CHARACTER BREAKDOWN
This is an ensemble show with most characters getting a moment to shine! All performers must sing and move well. The listed doubling is slightly subject to change. There is also the possibility of one or more of the roles reversing gender.
MEN
Mysterious Man/Narrator Baritone-strong, commanding presence
Cinderella’s Father Baritone-older, character actor
Jack Tenor-youthful, energetic, passionate and deeply devoted to his mother
Baker Baritone-based more in reality than fairy tale, the heart of the show
Wolf/Steward High baritone-dark, creepy and adept at seduction; also doubles in an ensemble role
Milky White/Footman Ensemble role
Rapunzel’s Prince Tenor-royalty trained to merely be charming, attractive and suave at wooing damsels
Cinderella’s Prince Tenor-same as above but a bit more driven to succeed and conquer all conquests
WOMEN
Rapunzel Soprano-youthful, innocent but through the course becomes overwhelmed and manic
Cinderella Mezzo-constantly searching to escape her family to live a better life;
Jack’s Mother Mezzo-older, comical, character woman; loving yet frustrated with her son Jack
Cinderella’s Stepmother Mezzo-evil, plotting to keep Cinderella a slave while promoting her two daughters
Florinda Mezzo-youthful, arrogant and entitled
Lucinda Mezzo-youthful, arrogant and entitled
Baker’s Wife Mezzo-based in reality not the fairy tale world; working class, desperate for a child
Little Red Riding Hood Mezzo-youthful, annoying, overbearing, lacking in social skills
Witch Mezzo-strong, powerful and desperate to maintain her status as mother and leader
Cinderella’s Mother/Red’s Grandmother /Giant Soprano-strong actress with demanding, powerful vocal work
