ABOUT THE PRODUCTION

In the steaming underbelly of the New York City subway in 1964, an African-American man and a white woman find themselves drawn together in a conversation about race and masculinity, resulting in an explosive confrontation that reveals the violence of prejudice and the twisted standards of American culture. This visionary work by Amiri Baraka continues to provoke audiences and spark conversation more than 50 years after it’s initial production.

FROM THE DIRECTOR

For this production, I am looking for fearless actors of all levels of acting experience. The only thing I ask of auditionees is an open mind and a desire to create. I highly suggest reading the play before auditions, as it does contain explicit language and a few PG-13 interactions. I look forward to seeing you all!
