The American Pops Orchestra is Gearing Up for their Fourth Annual “NextGen National: Finding the Voices of Tomorrow” Competition
This competition gives students the opportunity to perform on a national platform and compete for a paid opportunity to perform live with The American Pops Orchestra (APO), a non-profit pops orchestra in Washington, D.C.
All components of the competition are free–and participants will receive invitations to participate in masterclasses leading up to and following the competition, as well as feedback on their performance from a panel of esteemed judges.
Winners will also receive a monetary prize in addition to live performance experience in APO’s 2021-2022 season. Please see the video below from the previous “NextGen” virtual competition held in April, 2020, for a better understanding of the event:
All pieces performed in this competition must be be pre-1970’s American popular or musical theater music. Songs by Cole Porter, Aretha Franklin, Elvis, and their contemporaries have been popular choices among previous competitors.
The semi-finals will be held virtually on November 21st, where the top 10 finalists will be selected by a combination of votes from the virtual audience and a panel of judges. Finalists will be invited to perform live with APO for the final round in March, 2021.
