Ebony Theatre will hold an audition tonight, Monday, December 10 at 8pm in the Purple Masque Theatre for a stage reading of EVE’S SONG by Patricia Ione Lloyd. Rehearsals are January 22-31, 2019 and stage reading is Feb 1 & 2. Jennifer Vellenga directs. Sides will be at the reading, actors are expected to read cold.
In Eve’s Song, Deborah is trying to keep things normal at home despite a messy divorce and her daughter coming out as queer. But as Black people continue to be killed beyond their four walls, the outside finds its way in, blurring the lines between family dynamics, politics, and the spirit world.
Characters:
Lauren: African American, 19 years old, queer, very pretty and masculine of center, dresses in masculine clothing only.
Mark: African American, 14 years old, Lauren’s brother, very skinny, introverted, highly intelligent, goofy, a nerd, a smart ass, a little bit of a jerk, slightly feminine with his mannerisms but he is straight.
Deborah: Lauren and Mark’s mother, African American, early 40’s, a very attractive divorcee. Successful, type A personality, loves her children.
Upendo Haki Supreme: Lauren’s girlfriend, African American, 21 years old, a social justice activist. She is beautiful. She is plus sized
(think size 12 and up for actresses under 5 foot 6). She dresses in an Afro punk style and has green hair and lavender lipstick.
Spirit Dancer One: An African American woman in her 20’s she was murdered and is haunting the house.
Spirit Dancer Two: A 50 + year old African American woman she was murdered and is haunting the house.
Spirit Dancer Three: An African American woman in her 20’s – 30’s she was murdered and is haunting the house. MUST BE A TRANS WOMAN [we are looking for this role outside of the university]
