The Flint Hills Shakespeare Festival nonprofit organization is once again hosting a performance and “Artisan Village” in St. Marys, Kan. (Hwy 24, between Topeka and Manhattan), on Sept. 14-16 and 21-23, with the grounds opening at 5 p.m. and performance beginning at 7:30p.m.
The FHSF’s purpose is to foster local appreciation for the classical arts, namely by ensuring that the surrounding communities have the opportunity to view Shakespeare the only way it should be viewed: in context. The artisans will be displaying period-centered wares and giving demonstrations. There will be festivities such as the Highland Games and strength competitions. Food, mead and merriment will all accompany the performance of “The Comedy of Errors” on an outdoor stage.
Tickets are at the door, $10/person, $15/couple, $30/family. Attendees are welcome to dress in costume, bring food, blankets, chairs and friends. Parking and entrance off of Mt. Calvary Road, St. Marys (there will be signs directing you off of Hwy 24).
This is an excellent and cheap alternative to some of the other Shakespeare/Renaissance-themed experiences, and one that I would highly recommend for anyone interested.
