“The Mikado” Auditions at MAC

By February 23, 2015News

The Manhattan Arts Center is holding auditions for the comedic operetta The Mikado next month!

Dates and Times:
Monday, March 9th
Tuesday, March 10th
from 7-9 p.m.

Audition Information:

Roles: 10 men, 9 women

What to Expect:
Participants in auditions will be asked to sing, read from the play, and dance. When we create dances for our musicals, we try to utilize actors within their abilities (within reason), so if you are physically unable to dance for auditions, please let us know at the time of audition. Not all roles require dancing ability, but we always want to know what people are capable of doing while we are in the casting process.

Synopsis:
This quirky interpretation of The Mikado puts a modern spin on this classic tale. The Mikado; or, The Town of Titipu is a comic opera in two acts, with music by Arthur Sullivan and libretto by W. S. Gilbert. Nanki-Poo, the son of the Mikado, leaves home and disguises himself as a musician to escape a distasteful marriage. He meets a beautiful girl, Yum-Yum, with whom he falls in love. He desperately wants to marry her, but obstacles are cast in his way by Yum-Yum’s guardian, Ko-Ko, Katisha, Nanki-Poo’s jilted bride, Nanki-Poo’s father, the Mikado. Director Penny Cullers will take this classic tale and take what she refers to as, “a cross between Kill Bill and The Green Hornet – this is not your usual Mikado.”

We look forward to seeing you all at auditions! Contact MAC at 785-537-4420 if you have any additional questions.
