Dorothy Glick Maglione, Assistant Professor of Musicology in the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance published “Welcome to America: Italian Emigrants and Concerts at Ellis Island,” in the latest issue of Chronica Mundi. The publication explores the experience of detained women as well as a musicological analysis of concerts at the Ellis Island Immigration Station (open 1892 to 1954). Maglione offers the detention of Boston Civic Opera Company’s leading Italian soprano Clara Jacobo in September 1925 as a case study of one Italian woman’s experience as an emigrant during this period of mass migration. Maglione joined Kansas State University in 2026 and her recent work is positioned at the intersection of immigration and music.
