KC/ACTF! If You Are a Theatre Student, You NEED to Read This!

By September 24, 2021News

So, you are an undergrad student interested in Theatre. What is one of the best ways to acquire new skills, meet fellow artists, find your way to a future career in the arts and be inspired as a Theatre student? Why, KC/ACTF of course!

What is KC/ACTF? The Kennedy Center/American College Theater Festival?

The Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF) is a national theater program involving 18,000 students annually from colleges and universities across the country. I aims to:

  • Encourage, recognize, and celebrate the finest and most diverse work produced in university and college theater programs;
  • Provide opportunities for participants to develop their theater skills and insight, and achieve professionalism;
  • Improve the quality of college and university theater in the United States; and
  • Encourage colleges and universities to give distinguished productions of new plays, especially those written by students; the classics, revitalized or newly conceived; and experimental works.

Our region (REGION 5) has an annual festiva that provides opportunities for theatre students to gather together to learn more about theatre, have an opportunity to do professional auditions & interviews, attend workshops, network with professionals and other students, and get certain work critiqued. Some people compare it to Thespians, but I say it is MORE – MUCH MORE! There are professionals from around the US who come to the festival to work with college students. This year’s festival is in Des Moines January 16-22, 2022.
