Let’s Talk About It Sessions: Hate Crimes; Names/Identity

By April 11, 2021News

In April, we invite all K-State students to join us in continued dialogue through two sessions called “Let’s Talk About It.” Participants will receive a Wildcat Dialogues face mask and/or t-shirt.

Let’s Talk About It: Reacting to Hate Crimes

Noon-1:15 p.m. Wednesday, April 14
Registration due noon Tuesday, April 13

In this facilitated dialogue session, students have the opportunity to discuss current events of the past month that include recent hate crimes against Asian Americans and other people with historically excluded identities.

Offered in-person and via Zoom. Upon confirmation of registrations, students will receive the Zoom link for the virtual or the face to face, depending on preference. In-person sessions will take place in room 204-205 at the Morris Family Multicultural Student Center.

Let’s Talk About It: What’s in a Name?

4:30-6 p.m. Tuesday, April 20
Registration due noon Monday, April 19

Join Jaime Mendez III, K-State alumnus and former football player, as he shares his story and journey in reclaiming his identity through his name. He will share important perspectives about growing up as an American Latino who navigates living between cultures and the pressure to fit in versus owning your story. Participants will engage in dialogue around the power of language, differences between fitting in and belonging, and owning your identity.

Offered in-person and via Zoom. After registrations are confirmed, students will receive the zoom link for the virtual or the face to face, depending on preference. In-person sessions will take place in room 204-205 at the Morris Family Multicultural Student Center.

When we cultivate places of belonging, we see equitable representation at the table, and we hear the voices of those who have been historically underrepresented or excluded.      You. Belong. Here.
