The Haunted Masque

This year Kansas State Theatre Organization (KSTO) will be hosting a haunting soiree in the Purple Masque, one of the most haunted places in America. Auditions will be early next week. Rehearsals begin Sept. 29th. Please plan on wearing something you feel comfortable moving in. Those auditioning are asked to bring in a poem that they believe could be turned into a “scary” performance. You are encouraged to think outside of the box when finding your poem and creating your story. Furthermore, students are encouraged to think about the theatre department’s history with Nick the ghost. The Haunted Masque is directed by Dylan Rogerson.

The rumor: After a crushing tackle in the 1950’s, K-State football player, Nick was carried downstairs to the locker room, where he died. In a macabre twist of fate, his parents were killed in a car crash on their way to see their son. Nick roams the stadium searching for his parents. Reports of Nick clanging pipes, moving chairs, tapping people on their shoulders, and much more have circulated since 1964. Read more about Nick here.
