Summer Theatre Classes: Film, American Drama

Hey All,

This summer I will be teaching a Film class (June M-F, 10.20am-12.20pm) and a Modern American Drama class (July, M-F 10.20am-12.20pm). These are 500+ level, 3 credits each and will count toward the required Theatre electives for both Theatre majors and minors. I am looking for students to enroll asap. Tell your friends, as well. No Prerequisites!

In Film we will screen and discuss a wide variety of films, from silent flicks and Hollywood spectacles to International films and Independent motion pictures. Learn about Lee, Welles, Kurosawa, Chaplin, Keaton, Kubrick, Godard, Truffaut, Coen Bros., Blaxpolitation, 80s horror, gender and films, musicals, new queer cinema, animation, etc.

In Modern American Drama we will read and discuss plays by such writers as August Wilson, Tennessee Williams, Suzan-Lori Parks, Lynn Nottage, Paula Vogel and Tony Kushner. Topics include: Identity and Race in American Drama, Feminism and Gender, Queer Theatre, Performativity, Documentary Theatre, Contemporary Musicals, African-American and Latin@ Theatre and Performance Art. Read plays such as STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE, ANGELS IN AMERICA, WATER BY THE SPOONFUL & THE MINEOLA TWINS.
