AUDITION INFO

A Christmas Carol is the musical version of the classic Dickens Christmas story of Ebeneezer Scrooge, a miserly, greedy man who is transformed after being visited by three spirits on Christmas Eve who force him to reevaluate his life and embrace the true values of Christmas.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN

Tiny Tim/Scrooge at 8

(MALE CHILD)

Mr. and Mrs. Cratchit’s youngest son. He is crippled and sick, but is the definition of loving Christmas spirit. He constantly reminds his family that as long as they all have each other, they will be happy. (Range: A3 – E5 )

Jonathan/Scrooge at 12/Ignorance

(MALE CHILD)

Fiesty street urchin much like the Artful Dodger from Oliver!

Grace/Young Fan (Scrooge’s sister)/Want

(FEMALE CHILD)

Daughter of Mr. Smythe and Scrooge’s kind, sickly sister

Martha/Older Fan

(FEMALE CHILD)

Martha Cratchit is much like her mother in her dislike of Scrooge and as Fan, she is Scrooge’s loving and sickly sister

Christmas Past/Ensemble

MALE or FEMALE

An ever cheerful, sprightly ghost who comes back with the history book of Scrooge’s past to show him the events that led to his current state. Actor doubles as Lamplighter. (Range: A3 – G5)

Ebeneezer Scrooge

A man who lost his father to creditors as a kid and has grown up heeding his father’s advice to save his money. Until he realizes how terrible he’s become, he is grumpy, unsympathetic man and has no time for anyone or anything. (Range: A3 – G5 )

Cratchit/Ensemble

A father and husband who cares deeply for his family, particularly his youngest son. He works hard to provide for them but is mistreated by his employer, Scrooge. 

(Range: A3 – E5)

Fred/Ensemble

Scrooge’s nephew and only living relative. He is a pleasant young man who believes in the good a joyful Christmas spirit can make in the world. (Range: A3 – F5)

Christmas Present

A jovial, larger-than-life ghost who comes back to show Scrooge all the joy, love, and celebration he his missing out on while those around him celebrate Christmas. Actor doubles as Sandwichboard Man. (Range: A3 – G5)

Marley/Ensemble

Scrooge’s former business partner who, before his death, was exactly like Scrooge. Comes back as a ghost in chains to warn Scrooge of how his life decisions will bind him in the afterlife. (Range: A3 – A5 )

Fezziwig/Ensemble

A jolly man who used to throw a huge Christmas party every year for the community. He was Scrooge’s first boss and after teaching him all he knew, he became deeply disappointed in the man Scrooge became. (Range: A3 – B5 )

Smythe/Ensemble

Appears in opening and closing sequence with his daughter Grace appealing to Scrooge for an extension on a loan payment because his wife has just died and requires a proper burial.

Part of the charity trio caroling for Scrooge requesting donations for the poor

Trio Member #2/Ensemble

Part of the charity trio caroling for Scrooge requesting donations for the poor/Young Scrooge as he begins his business with Marley leading him down the path of greed

Mrs. Cratchit/Ensemble

Tiny Tim’s mother and Mr. Cratchit’s wife. She is a loving mother who tries to provide the best or her children with what she’s got. (Range: A3 – E5 )

Christmas Future/Ensemble

The Ghost of Christmas Future is strong and silent, though she does have solo lines in the ensemble roles, as she shows Scrooge what will happen to him and those around him if he continue down the path he is currently treading. (Range: A3 – G5)

Mrs. Fezziwig/Ensemble

The consummate hostess and Mr. Fezziwig’s wife, she loved to help throw the Christmas party every year. She is prideful. (Range: A3 – A5)

Mrs. Mops/Ensemble

Scrooge’s disgruntled overworked and underpaid maid who attempts to sell his belongings during the Christmas future vision

Emily (Scrooge’s Fiance)/Ensemble

Scrooge’s fiancé from when they were young. She is a beautiful girl, not impressed or in need of money. (Range: A3 – B5)

Sally (Fred’s wife)/Ensemble

Sally is Fred’s wife who doesn’t comprehend why Fred continues to invite Scrooge to the holiday family gatherings.

Beggar/Mother/Ensemble

Scrooge’s mother who must forge on alone once his father is sent to prison
